Project’s objective: avoid preventable deaths and preventable amputations and improve long-term outcomes of injured Ukrainians.
We raise money to support the education and operations of medics and first-line critical care providers in Ukraine. Since February 2022, over half of Ukrainians who died from their injuries could have been saved, and the majority of limb amputations avoided, if medics were thoroughly educated in lifesaving skills. The Foundation is providing the Ukraine Medical Corps and Academy all 32 classroom sets of sophisticated medical education equipment and medic training consumable. The Medical Corps and Academy are supervising the instruction by Ukrainian physicians and senior medics to teach the same curriculum used to teach U.S. and other NATO combat medics in 94 skills.
Medics who graduate from the course are also encouraged to complete an Instructor Course. Its purpose is to allow these graduates to train all soldiers in their units in skills such as tourniquet conversion, thus minimize the numbers of avoidable amputations. This crucial "train the trainer" approach allows the Here Right Matters Foundation to make an even wider impact.
We measure our success by carefully tracking: the number of combat medics trained, the capacity of qualified medic instructors assigned, and estimated reductions in preventable amputations.
We personally supervise the property transfer of all the equipment and trucks to the appropriate medical instructor locations and secure copies of the official property transfer documents.
The Ukrainian Military Medical Academy manages and supervises physicians who teach all Ukrainian medics in more than 15 dispersed facilities and 10 mobile instructional teams.
The program is entirely Ukrainian physicians and senior medics educating Ukrainian medics using the skills from the rigorous TCCC-CMC program of instruction as employed by U.S. medics.
This is a sustainable program with quality control managed by a subordinate organization of the Ukrainian Military Medical Academy.
The program requires $2.4 million (USD) in funding for educational aids covering all facilities, mobile instructional teams, and requisite vehicles. Accountability and verification of property are managed by partners of the Here Right Matters Foundation and the Ukrainian Military Medical Corps and Academy.
Most combat medics are continuously short on medical treatment supplies. This initiative provides the Medic Education Program’s top 25% of graduates with fully equipped medic aid bags. Procurement and assembly are done in Ukraine with the help of volunteers, and the Here Right Matters Foundation uses property accountability documentation in partnership with the Medical Corps. The budget for this program is an additional $3.2M.
